Geography Action Week - 1999 (GAW99)
The theme for Geography Action Week 1999 is
ARE YOU READY?
The main focus of activities during Geography Action Week (17 - 21 May 1999) in Victoria, New South Wales, the Australian capital Territory and Queensland will be the preparedness of citizens for natural hazards that may may threaten them. Other affiliated associations are concentrating their activities at a time more suited to their needs.
These few pages were established to support the efforts of the Australian Geography Teachers' Association : AGTA as they provide help for teachers and school students during Geography Action Week 1999.
Are you ready? : a booklet to help students prepare for disasters
The Australian Geography Teachers Association Inc. (AGTA) has published a booklet, "Are you ready?", which is intended to help students and teachers to begin to examine the ways in which we treat the natural hazards we face in life. This publishing project was sponsored by the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR) 1990-2000 in Australia.

Getting a copy of Are you ready?
Most Australian schools will have received a copy of "Are you ready?" as part of their membership of AGTA. If you would like a copy there may still be some available from the headquarters of the Geography Teachers Association of Victoria : GTAV.
