    Are You Ready?

The Australian Geography Teachers' Association : AGTA has published a booklet, "Are you ready?", which is intended to help students and teachers to begin to examine the ways in which we treat the natural hazards we face in life. This publishing project was sponsored by the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR) 1990-2000 in Australia.

"Are you ready?", after a general introduction to ways of responding to hazards, takes tsunami, landslides and bushfires (wildfires) as examples to help students learn ways of avoiding disaster, reducing or modifying the effects of disaster and recovering from disaster.

    The Web preview

A few of the resources from the booklet can be found on Web pages. Click on the links labelled Web in the index.

    Portable Document Files (pdf)

For those seeking higher quality, especially for printing, there are a couple of pages from each chapter available in Portable (Adobe) Definition Files (pdf).
The booklet is printed in high quality black and white (greyscale) and the preview examples can be downloaded from the links labelled (pdf). A couple of these files include colour images of the gray scale ones used in the booklet, but are of lower quality (300dpi v 1200dpi).

Be warned; the pdf files can be fairly large and slow to download.
With a good connection you should be able to get the smallest (Resources) in about 15 seconds and the largest (Chapter 3) in about 1 min 40 secs.

Yes, I know that this is a blatant, gratuitous plug, but the book is worth a quick look. It was shortlisted for the "Academy Awards" of the industry by the Australian Publishers Association!
